A Previous Day

She shook her head trying to get her mind off what happened yesterday. She sat right in the middle of a classroom while the eyes of a stern teacher watched her. She sat up straight fixing her hair and she watched him look away.

The instructor was reviewing the chapters of the book the class was suppose to read. He wrote in scribbles on the chalk board and turned to face her again.

"Gem? Do you know why she did that to him?" He asked looking straight into her eyes, her mind throbbed as the memories suddenly came flashing back.

Gem's sister, Tatayana, had been holding a knife looking viscously mad. She had had the most terrifyingly satisfied smile across her face. The knife had stood in the air next to her head and Tatayana was aiming it towards her ex-boyfriend, Louis-Clark, who had been cheating on Tatayana on her own once best friend, Sinia.

They had been lying on the white tiled floor, Louis-Clark was struggling to get up and free himself from murder. She wouldn't ever let him. Sinia had been watching horrified, her hands cupped over her gapping mouth, she had stood not to far leaning on a wall. Gem had been by the hallway just coming in back from school.

"Tatayana?" Gem had said confused, nervous, and very scared. "Wha-What are y-you doing?" Her voice had risen in a higher pitch voice showing Gem was scared.

She had turned to her, Tatayana's smile fading, only for a moment she had looked sane. The sudden moment she had turned back, her insanity came back. A great looney smile had crossed her face, her eyes flashing with a devilish glee. The knife had flashed from the light into the air then diving back down she slashed. His blood was gooey on the knife and had splashed all around the floor, the walls, and the girl.

The two girls had been screaming in horror.

Gem passed out, waking from it thinking it was a dream, she had realized it wasn't but could only wish it was one.

"Gem?" said her instructor again.

"I-I-I don't know..."Gem said dazed out and everything began to look blurry.

"Well,-" He said but noticed she passed out on the desk. The class watched.

Next thing Gem knew, she was in a hospital bed. Someone was looking at her with a familiar smile of a previous day.

Warmth of Hope

I stand in the cold holding myself around the waist. I look at your window, teary eyed, as white specks cross my face. I don't see you, but I only hope your there. In my thick, tan, fuzzy, coat I rub myself to keep warm.

The street is empty, only few cars parked near driveways but there are no people. Only me in this blizzard.

Frost bitten, I open my hand to reach the door and I hear a crack.

No, not from an opening door but my hand. My hand has been staying in the same position for such a long time, my skin cracked open and warm blood trickling down my grey skin. I start screaming, a voice that could not come out. It was difficult but I try to look away and, at my best, ignore the pain my hand was causing. I knock on the door.

I hope your here, I think. What if your not? What if the Ice Age came into your home, then...And then what? What will I tell Sophie? Your father is dead, grand mama, sissy, and auntie too. They have been here before I left them, I only went to the grocery store then this sudden storm broke out. I have left my eldest son with my youngest daughter, Sophie. They, too, were hoping that the rest of our family were still alive. They weren't far behind me, in fact they were watching me.

The door creaks open, a smiling friendly face stands in the doorway, lighting surrounding the back of him. Voices follow after the creak, familiar voices to be exact.

"Who is it?"

The Giant Will Die

She never would believe me if I ever told her, she would fall down and crumble to the ground like a pile of leaves, crying and making disastrous puddles.

I looked up at her from the ground and began to rise into the sky, my wings flying, sparkles falling down.

She sat there between the trees, sitting down holding some kind of fuzzy creature. The animal laid on her lap calmly as she stroked his hair with her gigantic hands.

She was watching the animal and then heard my wings flutter, and she looked at me and we were in eye level. She gently let go of the animal. The fuzz ball stretched and hopped off her leg, and walked away on all fours.

"Are they back?" She asked in her low and enormous voice, her eyes filled with hope that began to moisten.

I looked away to see the clouds moving in the sweetly blue sky, and a sun setting causing an ocean to have an orange circular reflection. I looked back at the giant girl, I couldn't bear to tell her the truth but it was in my instinct to just do it. Truth is always best.

"No, they're not. They've peri-" My voice high-pitched, I stopped as I watched her ball out in gigantic tears, making waterfalls of salty water and I backed away just enough so she could still hear and see me.

"Why? Why?" She called out, her face getting red.

"They've perished in the war." I finished. "You must go, child, they will try to find you." I warned her.

She looked at me, wiping her reddened eyes.

"Where is there to go? I'm a giant, you forget, How could they not find me?"

Dark Band Plays

I'm in the middle, people see me, but I see nothing.

I feel my arm raise and I hear a crowd screaming.

I look behind me, opening my eyes, I smile to a man holding sticks sitting on a chair with a set of drums infront of him.

He begins the beat, stomping on the pedal, making a low boom sound.

I look to my right, my smile slightly fades, the young man holding the electric guitar looking very sweaty and his eyebrows risen almost touching the tip of his hair. He was nervous.

The guy on the other side says "Are you ready?"

I look at him, holding his bass, he begins to strum.

A low beat starting to form and I watch my audience get louder.

The nervous boy chimes in.

Here I am, I soon begin.

"Where were you in the moonlight?" I sing.

The crowd applauses, screams calling out "I LOVE YOU!" I wonder to myself, how true is that.
They don't even know me.

"When I was with the wolf to fight,
You did not come and save me!
You could not you did not see
Me..."

The beat is slow and calming, but sorrow I feel as I sing and remember.
 My voice low, I continue...

"I stood in the forest and found you,
You looked at me with blood
I told you I would come back too
But then there came a thud."

The music begins to grow slightly faster, I start jamming to the beat and slashing my hair at the air. The crowd continues to cheer.
